Ultimately, we didn’t have to make the toughest decisions because our dad soon moved into a hospice, which was covered by Medicare. Shortly thereafter, he passed away. We knew all along that his passing was a very real possibility, but we hoped that he would recover, and we needed to plan for it. Doing our research and planning was important, and very scary. - If owned, is there a mortgage?
- If there is a mortgage, how much is still owed?
- How much is in the savings account?
- Do they have stocks, bonds, commodities, etc.?
- Do your parents have life insurance?
- Do they own or lease their car?
- What are their monthly expenses?
- What other assets do they have?
